Abstract: This 7 page report discusses the events of 1917 and the Russian Revolution. Russia suffered serious reverses in World War I at the hands of the Germans and Austrians. The country had become a backward country with a miserable peasantry on the verge of starvation, a thin veneer of European civilization, and a seemingly unbridgeable gap between the privileged and the unprivileged. The Russian people turned to the Bolsheviks, almost by default, to implement the popular revolutionary program. Lenin and the Bolsheviks eventually implemented their own version of revolution instead. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
