Chamberlain And The Politics Of Appeasement

Abstract: A 17 page research paper that examines the appeasement policies of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, who tried to negotiate 'peace in our time' with Adolph Hitler. The writer argues the standard rationalization that the appeasement policies gained Great Britain one extra year of peace in order to rearm and consolidate public opinion are false and that recent scholarship has shown that appeasement had more to do with economics, both foreign and domestic, then anything else. Bibliography lists 15 sources.
