Abstract: The concepts of empire and imperialism are discussed in this 6 page paper. Howe's (2002) Empire: A Very Short Introduction is used along with Mommsen's (1980) Theories of Imperialism. It is argued that on balance, empires are more negative than positive, but they are not completely destructive. No additional sources cited.
