Multi-Media Project: Mapping CD-ROM for Mac with a Twist

Abstract: This 10 page paper proposes the development of a mapping CD-ROM that incorporates a voice recognition and text-to-speech system that allows users to access mapping information while driving. This multi-media project incorporates some of the standard features of mapping programs for Mac computers, including a database of existing maps in the United States and access to Web database with additional map features, allowing the user to download necessary maps and plot trips through the interactive format. The key variances in this software is the integration of voice features which allow the user to access the software using a Mac Powerbook without having to view the maps while driving. Text integration features are also utilized in order to make the descriptors of the map and trip planning process valuable to the user during driving. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
