Defining the Female Canon

Abstract: A 5 page research paper that addresses the field of art criticism and how, traditionally, the art world has either ignored or belittled the work of female artists. Beginning with the feminist theory of Simone de Beauvoir and continuing to the work of Linda Nochlin, and finally to the tongue-in-cheek analysis of art history by the 'Guerrilla Girls,' the writer argues that there is a considerable canon of female artistry that deserves to be examined and appreciated.
