Abstract: A 7 page research paper that examines the philosophical viewpoint of 12th century Jewish philosopher Moses Maimonides in regards to 'perfect law.' Maimonides proposed that humanity should model all law on Biblical law, which is by definition 'perfect' due to his divine origin. The writer argues that this viewpoint in regards to political law is at odds with American tradition that sees the purpose of law as a means of preserving domestic tranquility and provides for a sharp division between the realm of law and individual religious practice. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
