The European Union in Expansion

Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing several points of advantage and disadvantage to member nations, applicant nations and non-member nations, particularly the US. Formerly known as the European Community until 1993 when the Maastricht Treaty took effect, the European Union is a treaty-based and institutional entity that encourages and even requires political and economic cooperation among its current fifteen member nations. Changes could affect overall relations with the US, but the advantages are likely to be greater in number than any disadvantages that may arise. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
