Abstract: This 10-page paper discusses the experiences of foreign nationals who went to work in Stalinist Russia in the 1930s. It focuses mainly on Zara Witkin, an engineer whose gradual disillusionment with the Soviet system throws its brutality into sharp relief. It also describes Stalin's Five-Year Plans, and touches on the experiences of other workers. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
