The extent to which cultural developments in science, psychoanalysis and technology influenced visual art from mid-19th to mid-20th century is both grand and far-reaching; that American pop art reflects an abundance of these changes speaks to "the proliferation of advertising and images of mass culture in the visual environment" (Pop Art). Myriad contributions were made during this pivotal period from a multitude of artists in every genre, illustrating the depth to which this transitional time had upon virtually every element of television, music, comics, politics, technology and literature.
