The Portraits of Gainsborough

Abstract: This 12 page paper examines four portrait painting by the eighteenth century English painter Gainsborough; Mrs. Sarah Siddons 1785, Mr and Mrs Andrews 1749, The Morning Walk (Mr and Mrs William Hallett) 1785 and the Countess of Howe 1764. The paper looks at each portrait individual, considering the paintings themselves and what the images depicted tell us of the time they were painted. The bibliography cites 8 sources.
