Mary Cassatt/Jouissance

Abstract: A 7 page research paper that examines the career of nineteenth century Impressionist painter Mary Cassatt. The write argues that the pleasure (jouissance) that Cassatt displays in her painting is the world of nineteenth century women, with a particular emphasis on the mothers and children. Cassatt brings a realistic perspective to her depictions of everyday, domestic life, capturing the natural and often awkward poses of her figures. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
