Abstract: An 8 page paper discussing how resistance influences change. Two authors, Kenneth Frampton and Karsten Harries, discuss both change and the lack of change in architecture. Each finds reasons for resistance to change over time; Frampton attributes that resistance to regionalism. Where regionalism is strong (such as in New England), there are many restrictions, both written and unwritten. Where regionalism is not as strong (1920s California, as example), individuals are more willing to take risks with architecture. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
