THE CONCEPT OF GEISHA

Abstract: This 5 page paper discusses the concept of geisha as illustrated and exampled in Arthur Golden's book, Memoirs of a Geisha. Contrasted and compared is the concept of a simple prostitute to the highly ritualized ways of the geisha. Textual evidence is given which supports the idea that the main character is a woman of dignity and character. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
