Cultural Policies In Cuba

Abstract: An 8 page paper. The Cuban Constitution states that policies pertaining to education and culture are to be "based on Marxist-Leninist philosophy," and "artistic creativity is free as long as long as its expression and content is not contrary to the goals of the Revolution." That has been the policy since Cuba accepted aid from the Soviets. The Cuban culture is lively and colorful and rich with heritage but artists of any kind of severely limited in what they can express in any medium. This essay looks at these restrictions and the punishments for violating the will of the government. The culture of Cuba and cultural policies are discussed and explained. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
