Romanticism In Twenty-First Century America

Abstract: 5 pages in length. Amidst the troubling and often fatalistic attitude of the twenty-first century, the concept of Romanticism is still alive and well and living in the most developed country in the world. That there still exist artistic and cultural free spirits who embody the self-centered search for authenticity that J.L. Talmon describes for the nineteenth century speak volumes about the human spirit and its incessant quest for "the triumph of the values of imaginative spontaneity, visionary originality, wonder and emotional self-expression over the classical standards of balance, order, restraint, proportion and objectivity" (Drabble PG).
