Changes in Egypt and Turkey in the Nineteenth Century

Abstract: A 6 page paper discussing mechanisms by which Egypt was able to pull away from Turkey before achieving independence from the British. Until each nation achieved independence in the early 20th century, the histories of Egypt and Turkey had been intertwined for hundreds of years. As the original conquering nation, Turkey was the one with greater influence over the other, but Egypt was able to recover and begin developing at a faster pace as the Ottoman Empire slid into decline.
