Abstract: 10 pages in length. The life of Marie Antoinette reflected a woman who did not fit in to the traditional role that society had created for her. Wanting to live life on her own terms, Antoinette soon found that such actions would be the cause of her demise. She won no admiration from the French people, who disliked her for several reasons: her foreigner status, her blatant disregarded for strict etiquette of the French court, her association with unsavory types, her extravagance and her lack of devotion to Austria's interests. The writer discusses the life and trial of Marie Antoinette. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
