Abstract: This 6 page research paper considers John Locke's representation regarding the perception of external objects, as analyzed in his 1690 treatise, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding. Specifically discussed is David Hume's criticism of Locke's conclusions in An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (1748), his objections, and his stronger position concerning perception of external events, objects and causes.
