Factors Shaping the Futures of West and East Germany After World War II

Abstract: An 11 page discussion of the decisions which were made regarding East Germany and West Germany after World War II. Details the outcome of the Yalta conference and the relegation of West Germany to U.S. influence and East Germany to Russian influence. Contends the ultimate economic and political success of West Germany to East Germany can, in fact, be traced back to the decisions which were made immediately after the war. Many of these decisions determined the nature of democracy in the two countries and the degree of capitalism which would be obtained, two principles on which the United States and Russia had considerable disagreement.
