The Enlightenment: Artistic Evolution

Abstract: A 5 page discussion of the changes in artistic style which occurred during the period known as "The Enlightenment", or variably as "The Age of Reason" or the "Age of Rationalism". Relates the changes in art to the changes in the way Europeans viewed their world, their move from an approach which emphasized passion over fact to one which emphasized order, balance, and simplicity as well as a direct adherence to realism; a style often referred to as classicism.
