Renaissance Art: Distinctions Between Pope and Nobleman

Abstract: An 8 page discussion of the similarities and contrasts of portraits of the Renaissance period. Contends that while the Church was a driving force in the art of the period, the distinctions between the portraits of Popes and noblemen are subtle. Equates the similarities as being a result of the familial backgrounds of many of the popes who were from the prominent families of the day and consequently walked a fine line between papal direction and societal status.
