Abstract: The writings of Rousseau form a significant component of the political philosophies that have guided the establishment and form of government in the United States. This 6 page paper argues that Rousseau's discourse on inequality can be seen to presents the argument that the point of the Rosseau's treatese is that many of the norms that were necesary for the perpetuation of humankind in the natural state have been carried over into civil society where they are inappropriate and disrupptive.
