Robert S. Duncanson and 'The Lotus-Eaters'

Abstract: A six page paper looking at this nineteenth-century African-American artist in terms of the presence of racial motifs in his art, particularly his painting 'The Land of the Lotus-Eaters.' The paper presents both sides of the argument, but concludes that Duncanson was primarily concerned with evoking the beauty of nature, not making a social commentary. Bibliography lists six sources.
